Need humanitarian ME(AL) support?

What I do

Have you ever had the experience of needing some quick ME(AL) feedback in order to be able to progress your work?  Is this the right template or approach?  Is this a good indicator? Are these the right questions?  Is this the best way to organise this data?

Or perhaps you want to offer ME(AL) mentorship to your staff, so team members can confidently grow their ME(AL) skills and experience with reliable advice and on-the-job training?

Program funding doesn't always allow for full-time ME(AL) experts to be on staff, but there are still times where we need the expertise.

As a freelance humanitarian ME(AL) technical advisor, I can provide all the support you expect from a ME(AL) T.A., when you need it.  This includes guiding or leading:

  • ME(AL) components of proposals for humanitarian programs
  • ME(AL) frameworks and plans
  • Databases and dashboards (for indicators, program participants)
  • Data collection tools, including mobile data collection (Open Data Kit / KoBoToolbox)
  • Data collection exercises (baselines/endlines, routine monitoring, learning, research, feedback, evaluation)
  • Quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Reporting, including managing double-counting calculations
  • Information management and integration of ICTs into ME(AL) work
  • ME(AL) policy and procedure
  • Training, staff development, coaching and mentoring on ME(AL) topics
  • ME(A)L system assessments if you are seeking feedback on your ME(AL) system and ways of working
  • Development of ME(AL) systems between partners or within consortia

How I work

I work virtually, to cost-effectively support your teams where ever they are in the world.  What does virtual ME(AL) support look like during an emergency response?  It means that while your teams are working in communities, speaking with crisis-affected people and gathering data on people's needs, you still have someone at a desk building the database, doing the analysis, or drafting the report. Or during less active response periods, this means I can coach and support your staff through any ME(AL) activity or process, as the activity or process is happening.

I accept draw-down contracts.  This means you can contract my services for however many days you expect to need ME(AL) support per month, per quarter, per year and simply call on me when you need the support.  You're only charged for the time you use.

I accept backstopping during peak periods, or gap fills during staffing gaps.  Involved in a sudden onset emergency and need someone to get the ME(AL) framework set up, or organise the participant database immediately? Or do you anticipate having a gap in your team while you look for the ideal ME(AL) candidate?  Or maybe you or a team member are just taking a vacation and want to make sure ME(AL) work keeps progressing? Anyone who has worked in a humanitarian response knows that timeliness is an important part of data and staffing gaps can have a big impact on ME(AL) quality.  I accept work to help fill these gaps so you know ME(AL) tasks are taken care of during peak periods, or while recruiting continues.

You can outsource a ME(AL) task to me, or I can guide your staff through it. Sometimes it's helpful to have an external expert get something done, other times you want someone who can guide and teach the best approaches to build team ME(AL) capability over the longer term.  I'm an efficient worker and an effective mentor, capable of undertaking either approach.
